Our Story

From the restaurant floor to the job site

Before Skylight Home Improvement was born, life took me down a very different path. Until 2016, I owned a small restaurant in downtown Whitby. I was a chef, a business owner, and someone who loved being around people. Serving my community every day brought me real joy — the conversations, the familiar faces, the feeling of being part of something alive.

But when I started a family, everything changed. I realized that working in the food industry meant that the moments when everyone else enjoyed time with their loved ones — weekends, holidays, special occasions — were exactly the moments I had to be at work. I loved my restaurant, but I couldn't ignore that I was missing the most important moments with the people who mattered most.

So I made a difficult but important decision: I sold the restaurant and moved into a new chapter. I partnered with two experienced contractors and began flipping houses. The first project didn't make money, but it gave me something far more valuable — knowledge. Hands-on, real-world experience in everything from framing and drywall to plumbing, electrical, flooring, and more. Project by project, I learned the craft from the ground up.

Working quietly on flip projects didn't give me the same connection I used to have with my community. I missed being around people, helping them, learning about them, and being part of their daily lives. That passion from my restaurant days never left me — it just needed a new home. That's when Skylight Home Improvement was born.

Today, Skylight Home Improvement serves homeowners across Durham Region, the GTA, and beyond. Every renovation allows me to meet new people, help families improve their homes, and be part of the community again — it's my way of serving the community, connecting with people, and building something meaningful, one home at a time.
